Biography:
Kathy Austin joined the Town of Wilton in April 2009. Kathy comes to the Town as a NYS Certified Assessor and approximately 5 years in public service as the Assessor of the City of Glens Falls which consisted of a similar number of parcels. Kathy also brings 15 years experience as a  NYS licensed Real Estate Appraiser in the areas covering Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Essex, Schenectady, Rensselaer and Albany Counties. Kathy continues her education to bring excellence to her position with the Town of Wilton.

Key Responsibilities: Determine and maintain assessments, property inventory records, ownership interests, exemptions and maps on an estimated 5,940 parcels.

Produce the Tentative and Final Rolls for the Town on a yearly basis.

Assist taxpayers complete the following exemptions: Seniors, Alternative Veterans, Enhanced Senior Star, Basic Star, Disability, Clergy, Agricultural and Wholly Exempt.

Provide the Town of Wilton, County of Saratoga, School Districts, Fire Districts, Ambulance Districts and the County Sewer District with total assessed taxable values, which is required to determine tax rates.

Defend the Town of Wilton's assessment roll in cases involving the Independent Board of Assessment Review (IBAR), Small Claims Hearings and Certiorari Proceedings.

 FAQ's

When does my assessment change?
Assessments change as a result of new construction, demolitions, fires and periodic town-wide assessment updates. Periodic updates are necessary to ensure  an equitable assessment roll is maintained.
 
How do I challenge my assessment?
A grievance complaint form may be filed after May 1st but no later than Grievance Day, which is the 4th Tuesday in May. Forms may be obtained at the Assessor's Office beginning May 1.  Please click here for more detailed information.
